If you want to treat your taste buds to a unique culinary experience and make your stay memorable, then check out these fabulous options on where to dine and stay in Jaipur.

Chokhi Dhani:

Chokhi Dhani, which literally translates to “Rajasthani Culture” is located about 20km/12.4mi from the main city of Jaipur. This place is basically a Rajasthani village and resort, with cottages and suites that are ethnically designed with Traditional elements like frescoes, mud art, wall paintings and period furniture. If you want to experience Rajasthani culture and travel back in time to when the Rajput Kings lived, then Choki Dhani is a must-see attraction. There are also modern amenities like an outdoor pool, tennis court, spa services and most importantly wifi. Chokhi Dhani has a lake called “Tal Talaiya” which is open for boating and there is a small waterfall as well! Apart from this, there is also entertainment consisting of Rajasthani folk dances, live musical performances, puppet shows and astrology readings.

To top it all off, Chokhi Dhani has some of the best restaurants in Rajasthan, that serve lip-smacking food.

Here are a few options to consider:

  • Rajasthani Thali – A Thali is a traditional meal consisting of starters, main course, condiments and even desserts, all served in a single plate. The traditional thali has many small round bowls called Katoris that contain the lentils, vegetables, condiments like chutneys/pickles and the main grain and/or rice.
  • Royal Thali – This option gets you a Thali but the experience is next level! You get to eat like a King (literally what the Kings used to eat) and there is also music with live sitar and tabla.
  • Multi Cuisine buffet at the Resort – The spread here has authentic Rajasthani cuisine and assorted Indian dishes along with Continental delicacies. The food is served outdoors and you can comfortably partake in the buffett, as you gaze at the stars in the cool desert breeze. There are also live ghazal performances, which I think perfectly compliments the ambiance.

Rambagh Palace:

If you want to elevate your experience of the royal rajasthani culture and take it a notch higher, then stay at a Palace! This is exactly what Rambagh Palace offers. Rambagh Palace is a luxurious 5-star hotel operated by the Taj Hotels group and has rooms that were once the sanctuaries of kings, princes and their guests. In total, there are 79 rooms and some of these include stunningly restored suites of the former Maharajas. Rambagh Palace is called the “Jewel of Jaipur” and famous personalities like Anderson Cooper have stayed here. All rooms are decorated with elegant carpets, rich silk drapes and hand painted wall motifs. The most famous room is the legendary Peacock Suite, which overlooks the Mughal Terrace and the garden where the Maharaja used to celebrate “Holi”, the Indian festival of colour and lights. Another option to try is the private tent, which is illuminated only by torchlight.

Suvarna Mahal is the main restaurant of Rambagh Palace and this was opened by Raja Sawai Man Singh. The name Suvarna translates to Gold and true to its namesake, the meals here are served in gold plated dinnerware with cutlery designed by Versace.  Suvarna Mahal was once the Maharaja’s royal banquet hall.

1135 AD:

This restaurant is located in Amer Fort. Some of the famous dishes here are Laal maas and Junglee maas, which are a form of meat curries native to Rajasthan. Laal Maas is a fiery Rajasthani meat curry which is traditionally cooked on a wood stove (chulha). Junglee maas on the other hand is a slow cooked meat curry containing special spices, where the meat literally falls off the bone.
